Baxter Projects, founded in 2014 by Kevin Baxter and based in Brooklyn NY, is a modern architecture firm dedicated to exploring the intersections of art and science, technology and craft, politics and culture, and their influence on the built environment. Our overlapping interests in design and vocation provide us with the complimentary skills to execute meaningful projects that are aspirational as well as practical and distinctly rooted in place.
We’ll visit Kevin’s very own development of a strawbale passive house. This is a beautiful combination of what I would consider “low-tech” meets “high-tech” building science. He has collaborated with Peter Jensen of EcoCocon, who designed the panels for the cottage. The project is currently in a state where the wall panels are revealed, allowing us to preview the structure's internals. The notion of carbon sequestration via building envelope will be on full display :)
I have to say, it has been a dream of mine for projects like these to reveal themselves. Trust me, I’ve been looking. Many thanks to my colleague David Todd for the assistance and collaboration. If you, the reader, know of any thought leaders or projects in the region and would like to showcase their work/thoughts with us. Please reach out!
Lastly, please pencil in Saturday, Nov 19th, for perhaps our final in-person meet-up of the year. More on that soon…
